  1. Don’t give a lot of options – One of the surest ways to get people to abandon a cart or web form is by asking for too much information. In the same way, even showing a great number of choices can freeze potential prospects and customers into inaction, and thus lose the sale.
  2. Test everything – Leave nothing to chance. A single word in the wrong place can make a huge difference. Same applies with images and calls to action. Running A/B tests are the most informative, and far less time consuming than multivariate testing.
  3. Understand colors – Color in sales is actually a science, and the wrong color can send the wrong message subliminally. Make sure your colors are conveying the message you want them to!
  4. Videos and images are powerful – The brain processes visual media 60,000 times faster than textual data. Not just any image or video will do however, as you’ll still need to test these as well.
  5. Optimize your calls to action – Likewise, the shape, color, text and placement of your calls to action and buy buttons should be carefully thought out and tested.
  6. Remove navigation – Take away navigation to anything other than the action desired on pages where you are hoping to make a conversion. Your page should have but one purpose, and one purpose only. Don’t give them a chance to be distracted by anything other than the task at hand!
  7. Rely on data, not emotion – Make sure your decisions are informed based on the data, and not emotion. Simply because you like something doesn’t mean it will convert. Make sure you test and be ruthless when it comes to conversion optimization!
